Laboratory (Hatchery)

During this process we can determine or define five main stages:

  • Selection and preparation of breeding scallops
  • Spawning and fertilization
  • Larval farming
  • Metamorphosis and larval settlement
  • Post-larval farming

Once larvae are fixed in their collectors, they are carried to the sea to grow. This period lasts around 3-4 months. Size of seed collection is from 5 to 10 mm. Density obtained from collectors varies between 500-1000 scallop seed.
