Acuapesca, a company dedicated to the production and commercialization of scallops, has completed Peru’s first national shipment of this product to the Paraguayan market. This milestone strengthens the company’s commercial expansion strategy across South America, according to its Director, José Bellina Kohler, in an interview with ADEX’s weekly bulletin Perú Exporta. Bellina noted that this recent shipment represents not only the first dispatch to Paraguay, but also a valuable platform to introduce, develop and promote the consumption of Peruvian scallops in this market.
Pioneers
With 38 years of experience, Acuapesca has developed an integrated business model covering every stage of the value chain, from seed reproduction in hatcheries to sea farming, industrial processing and export. The company operates 700 hectares of suspended farming areas and a processing plant located in Casma, Ancash, which operates under demanding international quality and food safety standards.

Acuapesca participated as a visitor at Seafood Expo Global Barcelona in April of this year
“Initially, we focused on Europe, particularly France. We later expanded into Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom. In recent years, we have broadened our reach in Asia and South America, entering Chile and now Paraguay, with Argentina coming soon,” he stated. The company commercializes scallops in four presentations: half-shell with meat and roe, half-shell with meat, meat with roe, and roe-off meat, adapting its portfolio to the needs of different customers and market segments
One of Acuapesca’s main contributions is the generation of employment in its area of influence. The company creates around 1,000 jobs and maintains a close relationship with the community of Casma. A significant part of its operations requires specialized labor due to the manual component involved in several stages of farming and processing. The company’s growth is also supported by internationally recognized certifications, including ASC, SMETA, BRCGS, IFS, HACCP and the European Union Organic Certification
“These standards support our responsible production practices, quality and food safety, facilitating access to increasingly demanding markets and strengthening the presence of Peruvian scallops on the global stage,” concluded Bellina Kohler. (Jean Hillpha)
